Derrick Rose's Return: One Lap Remaining

March 8, 2013

One more turn to go.

[The hole in your heart where DRose should be. Read here.]'s Melissa Isaccson, citing a team source, unveiled the last leg in a marathon that began in late April, reporting:

"Rose's doctor has cleared the Chicago Bulls' star to play, a team source said, but his long-awaited return to the lineup won't occur until he can confidently dunk off his left foot, Rose has told the team."

Derrick Rose's health --and what's been fashioned as "the return" by the marketing guys at Adidas-- has been one of the most intensely tracked storylines in the NBA this season.

"That's nothing new," Thibodeau told the Chicago Tribune's K.C Johnson when pressed on the news. "He's doing everything there is to do in practice. He's been cleared from that standpoint."

"Obviously, he's the most importance piece," Thibodeau said. "But from (team Chairman) Jerry (Reinsdorf) on down, everybody has to sign off on it. He's doing everything. He's participating in every part of practice."

As the Daily Examiner's Chris Cason alluded to, New York Knicks 22-year old guard Iman Shumpert also tore his ACL on the same day as Rose and is now 21 games into his own return.

It's worth noting that Shumpert's lateral quickness and explosiveness have not returned yet. His numbers are also down significantly from a season ago.

Gut feeling on Rose has been that he will return this season. He will need plenty of regular season minutes, for his body --and perhaps more importantly-- his mind, to adjust.

By all accounts it appears to be the stretch run of what has been a long road.

Like Chicago's hopes to return to championship heights, everything's ultimatley up to Rose.

Monday, March 18th when the Denver Nuggets come to the United Center looks like a solid spot in the company pool.

When do you think the city's kid returns?
